My Inquisitive Little Girl


Jenica has become quite the little explorer these days. Since she can now pull herself up on just about anything, the living room has become a whole new playground for her. And it's so cute to come in after nap time and find her standing in her crib waiting to get out. She seems happier than ever with all the sunshine and her daddy and I got her her very own swimming pool for the back yard, which she loves! She attended her first parade on Saturday night - the Starlight Parade in Portland...part of the Rose Festival festivities and really enjoyed all the marching bands. Sorry I haven't been updating this very often. I'll try to do better! As usual, your comments always motivate me that people are actually reading these :)

You know, I know there is a way you can get an email update if someone comments on your blog. Mine does, I just am not sure how you do it. These computers are so high maintenance.

A couple funny things that Jenica has said over the last couple days that I want to remember, and since I have failed miserably at the "baby book" concept, the internet is where they are being posted (Jenica, I apologize in advance for the embarrasment this may cause you in the future!) Yesterday I had to ask her a couple of times to put her socks on so we could get ready to leave. The second time she looked at me and said, "Sorry Mom, I didn't hear you, your talking must have made my ears dumb!" I literally laughed out loud! An open letter to divorced and separated dads

Dear Dads, I know divorce and separation are hard! Maybe even harder for you at times since you will most likely be giving up more time with your kids than their mom will, especially if you were the bread winner and she was the stay at home caregiver.  I know that strife between the two of you might make you want to give up and not fight for time with your kids. I urge you not to give up, if at all possible.  My mom left my dad when I was 12 years old. She left me and my 10 year old sister with our dad and moved half way across the country. Nine months later, in the heat of an agrument with my dad, I asked to go live with her. Despite her mental instability and poor parenting choices, my dad allowed me to move half way across the country to live with her. I'm sure he thought he was making the best decision for me. He didn't want to fight with my mom. He didn't want to fight with me. So he let me go. And then he never fought to get me back. And that has had a lasting impact ...

Chronic pain

Usually defined as pain lasting longer than 3 months, I unfortunately know from experience how debilitating and downright depressing chronic pain can be. Over the last decade, I’ve made many changes in my lifestyle, my healthcare routines, and my diet to try to eliminate as much pain and inflammation from my body as possible. But I still get flare ups.  Most recently, I’ve seemed to have developed a pinched nerve in my neck. My neck and back have been a source of discomfort for as long as I can remember. I took a big fall off the top of a large slide when I was 2 years old and started getting chiropractic care for headaches in elementary school. For the last 5 years, I have been getting chiropractic care every 2-3 weeks, and for the last few years I’ve also been trying to do masssge/cupping once a month.
